TO BE ADDRESSED TO
CROWN AGENTS FOR THE COLONIES,
DOWNING STREET, LONDON.
Hong Kong.
22nd December, 1897.
I have the honour to forward a copy of a letter
from the Acting Manager of the National Bank of China Ltd.,
with reference to the securities which he states are to be
lodged with us as cover for the notes of that bank circulating in Hong Kong. We do not appear to have received
any instructions on this subject, either from Mr Secretary
Chamberlain or from the Governor of Hong Kong, but I presume
that if the Bank is to deposit cover with us, the precedent
laid down in the case of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank
as regards Chinese Government Bonds will be adhered to.
I have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your obedient Servant,
B'd of Trade
The Under Secretary of State,
Colonial Office.
